RWANDAN CHILDREN: Children’s World Nursery and Primary School (Kayonza)

Our school has been here for preschoolers and young schoolchildren for several years. In the beginning, the idea was to educate and help women who were in a difficult situation and lived on the streets. Eric, who founded our school, helped HIV-infected women, helped teach English to adults. Eventually, Eric decided to start a school for children. He gained the support of the neighborhood and rebuilt the local church into a beautiful kindergarten and primary school for more than 180 children.

HISTORY

Our school was established in the space of a former church and at first had barely 40 pupils. Today, it has almost 150 pupils, football and other teams, and the pupils regularly go to see the Rwandan parliament.

SCHOOL

For our children, education is the greatest reward. Education means freedom, equality and opportunity for our children in the future. We try to offer children the best conditions and develop their skills.

SPORTS

Our children love sport and it is important to us. We try to develop football activities, but we also teach children the very popular basketball or badminton. We have both girls and boys teams. Sport gives us strength.

SUPPORT

Children need your support. They need funds for education, for sports activities and for trips to important places in our beautiful country. Without your support, our children cannot move towards their dreams.

Our children must visit the natural treasures that beautify our country, including Akagera National Park.

We received a short message from Eric: "Wawoooo, I have a surprise for you of a new school I established recently which is called: " PARKSIDE NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL"

Me,Iva, Eric and his family we went on a trip to the west of Kigali to look at places where a new school could be built in the future.

The teachers use laptops that we brought from the Czech Republic, but the children love the PlayStation.

Our school is located less than 70 kilometers east of the capital Kigali. Our village Kayonza is near Akagera National Park. When you drive along the road towards the national park and you see the football pitch, turn left after a few tens of meters.

Challenge No. 1: ICT technology, tools and user knowledge

The essential thing that the school has to solve is the ICT equipment. Eric says on the subject:

"Our main priority now, is fancing the school, expanding library, Ict lab and renovating the school at large,to develp soccer and basketball fields."

Challenge No. 2: expansion of spaces and rooms for school teaching, construction of a basketball court and better development of football

What is Eric's (principal) opinion on sports?

The kids play soccer and definately it is related to the school in so many ways for example ; the children do house competetions in football, the children also compete with their teachers in soccer and then lastly ,the school participate in regional and national competetions.

Founder and director of the school

My name is HABYARIMANA Erick, I am 32 years old, I was born in the city of Kigali, NYARUGENGE District, MUHIMA Sector, TETERO cell, when I was 2 years old, the Genocide against the Tutsis in 1994, immediately started, so my father decided to send me and my mother to my grandmother, in Southern Province, MUHANGA District, A few days later my father was killed, and an open war began. So my mother put me on her back together with my grandmother, on the way to escape, my mother was also killed with my grandmother, I was left with the people who lived next door to my grandmother until the end of the war and we went back home.

Ajva (Iva Jonasova) and Jirkam (Jiri Malina) came across our school completely by chance when they went to visit Akagera National Park. Jirkam and Ajva saw our children's soccer training from the car and immediately joined. In a few days they came back and visited our school and brought soccer balls for our little soccer players. They have been helping our school ever since. They find financial support for us, but mainly they help us in other areas: promotion, teaching and development support.

Jirka Malina (jirkam)

Jirka works in the public serivce media Czech Radio as Director of Marketing and Digital Services. He loves football and likes to explore football stadiums. He helps our children in the field of ICT, internet and of course football.

Iva Jonasova (Ajva)

Iva Jonasova works in the public media Czech Radio in the position of Director of Audio Content Development and Production. She loves traveling and cycling. She helps our children with English learning, media literacy and positive development.

Another project: BACK TO WHERE WE GREW UP

Information from Eric: Another project I'm working on ', is a project I call '“BACK TO WHERE WE GREW UP“, It's a project that aims to help young children born with different disabilities including albinos from poor families, who are also living in poor conditions and therefore, this lifestyle hinders their growth, and learning. This project started testing in 2023, where we donated milk to children, and delivered school supplies to them.
